The 19th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards which came off last Saturday April 14th at the Accra International Conference Centre has received lots of criticisms and acknowledgement also.
We took time off our busy schedules to find out what went wrong, what should have been more appropriate and what actually made the night.
First of all I want congratulate all the winners, it has been a toughest year but they sailed through anyway.
A little research established that a minimum estimate of over 800 people in the auditorium were watching Facebook live on their phones and reading comments! This is crazy, was the awards show that boring?
The live band was just not the type of live band performance I was expecting, anyways more room for improvement!
Samini, Sarkodie, KiDi, Kuame Eugene, King Promise, Mzvee, Nana Yaa were backed with the Black Lace Band
Afro Harmony band Performed with Praye, Efya’s tribute songs to the late Ebony Reigns together with Mzvee, Akosua Agyapong and Adina.
Also the backing vocalists were off, The live band was not good for everyone, I think they should know better by now. People couldn’t dance because of the live band performance
Pairing Kuame Eugene, Kidi & King Promise on the list of performers looked like their some triplets, don’t mess with their brand please. The fact that they went to the UK together doesn’t make them a “Trio or Group”
The new lords are doing very good with their stage craft especially Kidi & King Promise.
It was a big night for Kwesi Arthur, loved his performance to the core, he got people on their feet with his performance
Bringing praye on stage is dope even though their performance at a point was boring and noisy. The question is this, is the reunion here to stay or just for the VGMA’s? Remember unity is key. I’m pretty sure the idea was influenced by 3music awards bringing Chicago & Ex doe to perform on their stage.
Again the problem with “Praye” which means broom, a symbol of togetherness & strength, is that only two of them had their picture showing on the screens; this could raise an alarm again Oh! You know that right?
Sarkodie never disappoints, his opening was great! His performance definitely one of the best.
Big respect to him for bringing B4bonah on stage, I wish Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede & Other legends made way for our current kings; the industry wouldn’t have been what it is today.
Akwaboah should come out fully, I believe in his talent, I think he has an appearance of a low self esteem image.
Samini is a legend, he still got it and great performance by the saxophonist Mizter Okyere, been on songs like “Na Wash” by Becca, “Sweetie Pie” by Kinaata etc.
So charter house actually paid Nasty C to come and mime to their guest? This is disrespectful because the 80% of the people in the auditorium don’t know him and not even his songs, what happened to 2face, Dbanj, Wande Coal etc?
They could have paid Shatta Wale to perform 7 of his recent songs or did charter house promise him recognition in Ghana? Lmao
Thanks for the rendition Mzvee, Akosua Agyapong pulled up a Kanye on us with that splendid performance. This unity would have made more sense when she was alive. I learnt some females artiste refused to collaborate with her when she asked them for a feature, she was definitely a threat. R.I.P Ebony! Efya looked classy though.
The four of them together on stage sounded like American idol auditioning.
Tiwa savage’s performance was okay but the crowd didn’t feel her or is it because they wanted to see Patapaa & Shatta Wale on stage?
Gospel song of the year should have been awarded to Patience Nyarko but VGMA gave it to Joe Mettle in compensation so they could use him for their shows, nice doing business charter house. Nice one!! Which gospel song was popping and bigger than “Obi Nyane me” by Patience Nyarko?
Kidi well deserved, why was kuame Eugene following him up on stage tho? It’s so childish, why didn’t kidi also follow him up there to take his awards.
Joe Mettle deserved the Gospel Artitse of the year because he played more shows than any gospel artist the year under review.
Song writer of the year well deserved but it wasn’t necessary for Bullet to go up on stage with those two girls in my opinion.
Reggae dancehall artitse of the year well deserved, Stonebwoy worked really hard this year and not forgetting the year under review. Good speech by Stonebwoy; a sign of Maturity
Male vocalist of the year well deserved, Congratulations Joe Mettle for winning this award twice in a row, this is the second time the Female vocalist of the year award has been given to Adina, I think she deserved it, nobody saw her coming up!
Well done Kuame Eugene, he deserved the award for best new act, Angela was a huge song. I hope he humbles himself till the end of his musical journey.
Vodafone Popular song of the year was totally cheated paa, Patapaa deserved this award not Fancy Gadam.
Ebony well deserved “Album of the year” she worked so hard on that masterpiece. Having more than 6 hits on an album which was put together in a year.
Selly Galley remains my female best dressed for the night and Stonebwoy & Cyril of Yolo fame for the males.
Mzvee’s outfit is out of way with her Wakanda moves, don’t force it girl
The host for the event was perfect they held the crowd together.Berla Mundi was a perfect match for John and they really rocked it. Pure display of chemistry.
Eloquent! Ursla is very fluent and her outfit is just perfect for the night.
ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS
Angel town sent a good message out there, road safety is essential in the lives of people working in the entertainment industry. Stonebwoy & Sarkodie also said it’s a campaign we should embrace to save more lives.
Best Collaboration not bad at all, “Taking Over” was huge, earned 1 million views on YouTube in a month or so when the song was released and now streaming 6.8 million views on YouTube
Jupita submitted his forms but wasn’t nominated yet his “Money Box” song was been played to promote the show. Only in Ghana smh
Stonebwoy was seen kissing his wife but it’s totally okay because love goes where love is. The live streaming on Facebook was really perfect. The stage looked like a magic show of which I think charter house could have done better with 350gh premium ticket sales. Amebo!
Well? Like we said in a series of post on our Instagram page (@Rock3sixty) last year December 2017 that Ebony will be crowned the Artiste of the Year
